LMS Celebrates Excellence with Inaugural Black History Assembly

Lynwood Middle School celebrated African American pioneers on Feb. 28 during an inaugural Black History Month Assembly that gathered students and staff for a day that honored excellence.

LMS students recited speeches and poems, including Maya Angelou’s “I Rise”, and paid tribute to historic figures like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President Barack Obama and Mahammad Ali.

The school’s drill team performed evoking the Tigers spirit, and the event concluded with a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant. Students shared their favorite quotes from Bryant before watching his short film, “Dear Basketball.”
